What is Survey Junkie?

Survey Junkie is one of the most popular online survey platforms. It’s legit, it’s transparent, and it’s an easy way to earn a few extra $1’s when you’re in a pinch. But don’t think that Survey Junkie will replace your full-time job (because it won’t).

Survey Junkie Pros and Cons

Before we jump into the nitty-gritty, let’s take a big-picture look at the Survey Junkie pros and cons:

The ultimate goal of Survey Junkie is to:

“Connect your voice to big brand companies – helping shape our world” – Survey Junkie Mission

As you can see, Survey Junkie claims to connect you with big brand companies from around the world, which are looking for consumer input (from your surveys) to shape their products, brands, and services.

That sounds pretty cool.

Whether that’s actually the case, I don’t know.

For those of you wondering about customer service issues, I wanted to share that it doesn’t seem like Survey Junkie’s customer service team is that responsive and helpful (which is honestly what I expected).

Plus, based on the information below, it seems like only 5% of the issues were actually resolved with the customer service team.

summary of survey junkie customer service calls

It seems like one of the main reasons why customers reach out to Survey Junkie is because they cannot redeem their points to cash.

However, overall, Survey Junkie is rated with a B Rating on the BBB (Better Business Bureau), which is decent.

Now that you have a rough idea of what to expect before signing up with Survey Junkie, it’s time to get into the nitty-gritty.

How to Set Up a Survey Junkie Account [Step-by-Step Guide]

For those of you who are wondering how to set up a Survey Junkie Account, I’ve outlined a simple, step-by-step guide for you below with detailed screenshots.

Let’s get started.

First, you’ll want to head over to Survey Junkie.

Next, we’re going to click on “join now.”

survey junkie signup step 1

If you’re a first-time user, you’ll have to type in your email address, check the box that says you agree to the site’s terms and privacy policy, and click on the green “Sign Up” button to create a new account.

survey junkie signup step 2

I was a little surprised this was my next screen (I thought I would start filling out information right away).

You’ll want to click “Start Now” so you can begin the sequence of the next 5 pages.

survey junkie signup step 3

Next, you’ll have to type in your zip code.

survey junkie signup step 4

After you type in your zip code, a new box will pop up, requesting you to confirm your country.

Finally, you’ll have to include your first name and your last name and create a password for your account.

survey junkie signup step 7

Yay! Just by signing into Survey Junkie, I earned 25 points (aka $0.25).

There’s an important step that they don’t tell you here: You need to confirm your email.

While you signed up, Survey Junkie just sent you an email to the address you provided. Make sure to check your emails to confirm your account.

survey junkie signup step 8

This is the email I received – and you’ll want to click on the green button to confirm your email address.

Note, you’ll get an additional 25 bonus points for confirming your email (aka $0.25).

survey junkie signup step 9

After confirming my email, I officially earned 25 points and was redirected to the Survey Junkie homepage (again).

By confirming my email, and by signing up, I earned a total of 50 points ($0.50) for my effort.

Check out my Survey Junkie dashboard, below.

survey junkie signup step 10

This dashboard is clean, it’s user-friendly and it shows you how many points you’ve already earned on the left of the screen.

I also like how the dashboard shows you some of the survey options that are open to you.

I have 3 options to earn more points:

  • How it works
  • Add extension
  • Complete profile

I’m going to click on “complete profile” (see the bottom, left) of the screenshot above.

survey junkie signup step 11

This is the start of completing your profile.

As you can see, there are 16 steps involved in completing your profile with Survey Junkie, so I’m not going to waste your time by taking a screenshot of every single step – I’m sure you get the point.

After going through the profile sign-up process, I earned another 50 points with Survey Junkie.

How to Take a Survey with Survey Junkie

For those of you who want more information on how to take a survey with Survey Junkie, I’m going to walk you through 1 sample survey that I decided to take.

How to take a Survey with Survey step 1

Here’s the cover page of the survey I decided to participate in (for 80 points).

You’ll want to click “Start Survey,” which will take you to a different screen.

How to take a Survey with Survey step 2

Turns out, this first question was likely testing you to see if you’re a human and not a robot.

After answering this question, you’ll click “Next” and you’ll be redirected to the actual survey page, as shown below.

How to take a Survey with Survey step 3

After clicking “Continue,” you’ll have to take some time to fill out your demographic situation. Again.

How to take a Survey with Survey step 4

…And you’ll have to fill out even more personal information…

How to take a Survey with Survey step 5

After several questions you can finally start the survey…

How to take a Survey with Survey step 6

And here’s your first question.

As you can see, some of these questions can be very lengthy… so once again, you need to ask yourself: Is this survey (where your earning potential is $0.80) really worth your time?

Let’s continue.

How to take a Survey with Survey step 7

Once again… I’m being asked a lot of personal information in the middle of the survey.

I’m not a fan of having to re-enter my personal information here, but I’ll go along with it.

To save you some time, I’ll fast forward through the actual survey process.

After taking about 10 minutes of my time to complete these questions, I finally found out that…

How to take a Survey with Survey step 8

…I didn’t qualify for the survey!

The good news is that although I didn’t qualify, I did earn 3 bonus points.

And you don’t get that with other online survey platforms.

It’s a little frustrating to know that you just spent 10 minutes of your life, completing questions, filling out information, etc. only to be told that you don’t qualify.

Back to my dashboard…

How to take a Survey with Survey step 9

To be fair, within 15 minutes, I earned $1.03 – in my pajamas, in bed, on a rainy Sunday morning.

I’m not going to complain.

It gets better: On my second attempt, I finally qualified and earned 22 points by completing a survey.

How to take a Survey with Survey step 10

Now, my dashboard is updated to 125 points (aka $1.25), and below is a quick tally of how I earned those points:

Action Points Earned

Signing Up

25

Confirming Email

25

Complete Profile

50

Failing Out of Survey 1

3

Completing Survey 2

22

Total Points

125

Earning $1.25 probably took me a good 30 to 40 minutes.

Now you see why I say that Survey Junkie is not a replacement for your full-time job. But, it’s a fun way to earn extra cash on the side, while watching TV, for instance.

How many points can you earn with Survey Junkie just by signing up?

I kept a running tally of how many points you can earn, just by signing up with Survey Junkie.

Check out my results, below.

Action Points Earned

So, just by signing up, you would have earned 100 points – or $1.

What are some Survey Junkie Tricks?

If you’re ready to sign-up and use Survey Junkie as a way to earn money fast, then I want to share a few tricks with you to get the biggest bang for your buck:

If you’re eligible to join focus groups, Survey Junkie will email you. Focus groups typically pay between $10 and up to $200 per group

Separate Survey Junkie Email

As you can see, there are many ways you can earn points from Survey Junkie, you just have to be savvy about it.

Is Survey Junkie Legit?

With every online side hustle, there is a money-making opportunity that comes with the question of whether it’s legit.

Survey Junkie is no different.

The answer is yes, Survey Junkie is legit.

You won’t have to worry about your information being stolen (answers are anonymous) and Survey Junkie does pay you in exchange for your points.

That being said, there are 2 things I’d like to cover before you open a link with Survey Junkie:

  • Survey Junkie may not be the best use of your time
  • There are customer complaints that Survey Junkie does not pay its customers

Personally, I’d only use Survey Junkie if I’m trying to earn a few extra $1’s while doing something that’s a time-waster (like sitting on an airplane, standing in line, waiting in the dentist’s office, etc.).

I would not spend my precious time 100% dedicated to Survey Junkie during the day, where I could be doing something better (your time is only worth between $1.50 to $5 per hour with Survey Junkie).

How do I get Paid on Survey Junkie?

Are you looking to make money fast by taking online surveys with Survey Junkie?

Then let’s figure out how you can get paid ASAP.

Below are the 3 main ways you can get paid through Survey Junkie:

Payment Method Special Notes

Points to Cash

After you have 1,000 points ($10), you can cash out your points for cash via PayPal

Points to Gift Cards

You can transfer your cash to e-gift cards to some of the top retail stores like Starbucks and Amazon (available only to US users)

Direct Transfer to Your Bank Account

You can transfer your earnings straight to your bank account (available only to US users)

As you can tell from the above, Survey Junkie pays you in points.

Remember that you’ll have to remain active (aka take at least 1 survey every 12 months) on your Survey Junkie account to prevent your points from expiring.

Most other online survey platforms won’t allow you to earn money by completing surveys that you don’t qualify for.

Here’s how you can cash out your points through PayPal:

  • PayPal will charge you if you transfer money from PayPal to your bank account (around 3% of the money you transfer)

There is a slight difference between redeeming via PayPal and redeeming via gift cards:

Redeeming Points with PayPal Redeeming Points with Gift Cards

No partial redeeming option available – all points must be redeemed

Partial redeeming is available

It really doesn’t make a big difference whether you redeem partially and completely, but it’s a good fact to know.

I found this out as I was halfway through taking a survey and I received a pop-up from Survey Junkie, below.

How to take a Survey with Survey step 11

Although it makes sense that you’ll have to verify your identity, I just thought I might point that out to everyone.

Survey Junkie Alternatives

In the blogging world, Survey Junkie is probably one of the most popular online survey platforms mentioned.

And, there is a good reason why Survey Junkie is mentioned so many times:

  • It’s easy to use
  • It costs $0 to set-up
  • It earns you fast money

So, why not use Survey Junkie?

Well, if you want to maximize the amount of money you earn through taking online surveys, then here’s a tip for you:

These companies are legitimate and their payouts are somewhat similar to that of Survey Junkie, so it certainly wouldn’t be a bad idea to test out these additional online survey platforms.

Survey Junkie alternatives:

As you can see, there are plenty of alternatives to Survey Junkie, and I would suggest you consider signing up to multiple sites so that you increase your earning potential.

FAQs

You can earn between $2 to $5 per hour, and potentially between $20 and $200+ per month.

How much you earn with Survey Junkie depends on your demographics.

Your demographics will determine how many paid online surveys you qualify for.

You’ll likely only qualify for 20% of the surveys offered through Survey Junkie, so there are some serious limits in terms of how much money you can earn.

However, you can also earn money with Survey Junkie by becoming a candidate for focus groups.

As a focus group member, you could expect to earn between $50 to $100 per hour. You will be paid for attending a group session and sharing your feedback.

Once you earn 1,000 points (equal to $10) with Survey Junkie, you have the choice to receive your money in 3 ways:

  • Cash out points via PayPal
  • Exchange points for e-gift cards
  • Transfer earnings to bank account

Typically, it takes between 2 to 3 months to reach the payout threshold (1,000 points).

You may reach the payout threshold earlier depending on how many surveys you qualify for (which depends on your demographic), and how often you complete the surveys.

There have been 2 reports of imposter websites that falsely claim to offer services like Survey Junkie, but they don’t pay you and they take your information.

These reports have been filed with the BBB (see below) and are being monitored.

The 2 incidents include:

  • 2020 – Imposter website named SurveyJunkies.co
  • 2021 – Imposter website named CashJunky.co

Do not sign up to these websites, as they are (per the BBB’s website) fake.

You can probably make between $20 to $200 per month.

There’s such a large gap because how much you make depends on the number of surveys you qualify for, which ultimately depends on your demographic.

In general, Survey Junkie users qualify for 1 to 5 surveys per week, earning between $1 to $2 per survey.

Most Survey Junkie users earn just enough money to cover their monthly Netflix bill, Spotify or Hulu bills, for instance.

No, Survey Junkie should not be taking your money. When you take surveys, you earn points, where 1 point = 1 cent.

You won’t be able to cash out your points right away, however. You’ll have to wait until you have 1,000 (or $10) saved in your Survey Junkie account before you cash out the points (which can be done either via PayPal or via gift cards.

Survey Junkie Review: The Bottom Line

Survey Junkie is considered to be one of the oldest and most trusted online survey platforms out there.

Here’s a quick recap for Survey Junkie:

  • $0 to sign up
  • It’s user friendly
  • It’s easy to set up
  • You can make money fast
  • You can redeem your points into cash via PayPal

Just remember that Survey Junkie will not be replacing your full-time income anytime soon.

So, is it actually worth the time and effort to join Survey Junkie?

Honestly, it depends on your situation.

If you’re strapped for cash and simply need to find a quick way to earn money now, Survey Junkie could be a great way to earn a few extra $1’s.

Think about it:

  • While you earn about $10 to $20 every hour for another job

The positive with Survey Junkie is that you don’t have to deal with a boss or annoying colleagues – plus, you can earn money while watching TV and in your pajamas.
